Course Description

“Unconscious bias is often defined as prejudice or unsupported judgments in favor of or against one thing, person, or group as compared to another, in a way that is usually considered unfair.”

This Unconscious Bias Training has been made to distinguish, challenge and reduce unconscious bias in the working environment. Working environments with less inclination at all will in general develop more attractive, progressively various and increasingly fruitful societies.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This program is designed to provide an introduction to the topic of unconscious bias to school, college, and university educators. The program highlights variation definitions of unconscious associations, discusses the influence of these associations on student success and provides pathways to better understand unconscious bias in education.

REQUIREMENTS
Access to a computer with an internet connection.
Fluent/advanced level of English required.

WHAT'S IN THE COURSE?
The professional development program on Implicit Bias is designed to enhance the preparedness of faculty, advisors, student service officers, and other support staff in the community college to facilitate success among college men of color.

COURSE DURATION
You will have 30 days to complete each of the 4 modules of this training. Each module requires a 3-4 hour commitment (including lectures, discussion boards, readings).

IMPLICIT BIAS TRAINING
Implicit biases in education and work affect the lives of the victims greatly. They can be offensive or inoffensive and may not always be racial or cultural. But they can certainly influence our behavior towards a particular group of students and change the way we respond to them. Such incidences can also shut down the educational opportunities for them. That’s why it is necessary to train educators and administrators to understand the culture and environment students belonging to different races and cultures are exposed to. To reduce racial disparities in education, CORA is offering an online course on unconscious bias for school, college, and university educators and administrators.

HOW UNCONSCIOUS BIAS TRAINING CAN HELP?
These young boys of color have talent, and educators have a responsibility to nourish that potential. With CORA’s Teaching Boys and Young Men of Color training program, learners will explore strategies to engage their students and enhance their support of their potential. We will discuss and refine pedagogically cond and culturally relevant classroom practices.

BE A GAME-CHANGER IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION
The implicit bias training on unconscious bias is designed to help educators understand how their biased attitudes and reactions can influence the lives of a certain group of students for the wrong. It will empower them with new and effective ways to change their attitudes and discipline students in the classroom. Most importantly, educators would be able to identify how implicit biases are affecting their own growth and affecting students’ potential. Moreover, they can identify, define, and explore implicit biases and improve their discipline practices.

GOAL OF THIS COURSE
The unconscious bias training program aims at helping educators and administrators in understanding the cultural environment young men of color are brought up in. It is designed to help educators change the way they view students of different races and cultures, realize how their decisions based on implicit biases affect the lives of students, and implement strategies to confront and stop racial disparities.

COURSE HIGHLIGHTS
The unconscious bias training consists of four modules and a live video session to help learners define and explore implicit biases, understand how implicit baises affect discipline practices, how they impact students, and utilize best practices to intervene in such episodes in schools, colleges, and universities.

WHO CAN JOIN?
The unconscious bias training is open for all educators, administrators, and support staff pursuing their careers in the education field. The training program will also encourage them to open up about their experiences on implicit biases.
